The Chicago Bulls have had no shortage of legends, but one of their most recent greats will soon be honored.

On Thursday, the Bulls announced that they would be retiring Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey next season. Set for a January matchup against the Boston Celtics, Rose’s jersey retirement will be a perfect opportunity for fans to show some love to one of the best point guards of the 2010s.

Winning the 2011 MVP, Rose still stands as the youngest MVP in NBA history and could have had one of the best careers of the decade if not for injuries. Still, Rose had plenty of memorable moments in a Bulls jersey, and he will soon get to relive that.

Derrick Rose reacts to the big news

In a video from the Bulls revealing the news, Rose appears to be holding back tears as he learns that no one else will be wearing his No. 1 for the franchise.

Chicago’s connection with Rose is about as deep as you can find in the NBA. Born and raised in Chicago before eventually getting drafted to his hometown team in 2008, Rose has been a staple in the community for years, and his number being retired is a perfect example of his impact.

While Rose hasn’t played for the Bulls since 2016, his time with other teams almost always included a trip back to Chicago that featured a roaring ovation from fans. While he won’t be on the floor for this ovation, his number will be in the rafters for all of Chicago to see.
