Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire Claims That he has a first-round draft pick on the Roster
McGuire spoke to the media on Monday. NFL scouts are going to be in attendance for the Texas Tech and Utah matchup. Cole Forsman of si.com covered the story and McGuire said,
"It's going to be packed, man, because you look at it like for them; the way the quarterback is playing right now, both tackles are projected first round draft picks. The one tackle (Spencer Fano) is projected as the No. 1 offensive lineman off the board. They've got a linebacker (Lander Barton) ... he's going to be a first or second round draft pick. He is massive, and he plays tight end, and they've got two guys that are playing both ways at times, and he plays inside linebacker and tight end. You turn around with us; David Bailey, projected first round draft pick. Romelo Height is playing really, really well right now. Lee Hunter; I mean, guys like that. You've got a number of first and second round draft picks in this game, so I'd be shocked if every team's not represented."
David Bailey is a 6'3", 250 lbs edge rusher for the Red Raiders. He has recorded five tackles and 2.5 sacks in the first three games of the 2025 college football season for Texas Tech. There is no doubt that Utah's offensive line is going to have to account for him in the game plan.
For now, it may not appear as if many mock drafts will have Bailey as a first-round draft choice. However, Fano of Utah is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. If Bailey has a very good performance against a very good Utes offensive line, then the Red Raiders edge rusher is going to get more attention in the NFL Draft process moving forward.
