Most Super Bowl wins by team: How 49ers can tie Steelers, Patriots for NFL record in 2024 image

It's been 29 years since the 49ers last won a Super Bowl, but they still rank among the most successful franchises in NFL history. The 49ers are one of three teams with at least five championships in the Super Bowl era,

Despite a nearly three-decade title drought, the 49ers have come close in recent history. San Francisco reached Super Bowl 47 and Super Bowl 54, only to narrowly lose both contests. Franchise greats such as Patrick Willis and Frank Gore came and went without ever hoisting a Lombardi Trophy

For San Francisco's modern-day stars to become legends like Joe Montana and Jerry Rice, they will need to end the drought. If they do, the 49ers can climb back to the top of the mountain and tie two other teams for the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history.

Here's a complete look at how each NFL team has fared in the Super Bowl.

NFL teams that have never played in a Super Bowl

Of the four teams that have never played in a Super Bowl, three made the playoffs this season. The Lions nearly exited the club, as they seemed to be on their way to the Super Bowl with a 24-7 lead in the NFC championship before the 49ers came back and avoided the upset.
