Skylar Thompson robbery details: Latest updates on Steelers QB who was ‘jumped’ in Dublin image

The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin in Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season.

An international game comes with a lot of risk, with both teams being in unfamiliar territory. Players can struggle with adapting to the time change or deal with jet lag from the long flights. Another problem is that the players typically get an off day and are known to venture into unfamiliar places.

Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was out in Dublin ahead of the team's game. He was jumped and robbed, but came away from the encounter with only minor injuries.

Skylar Thompson robbery details

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday morning that Thompson had been the victim of an attack in Dublin. Pelissero said that the backup QB was jumped and robbed, and is dealing with minor injuries, but is otherwise okay.

Steelers PR spokesperson Burt Lauten said that they are aware of the incident, but had no further comments as they are working with NFL security to gather more information. Lauten confirmed that the attack took place on Friday night.

Monday, Irish Minister of Justice Jim O'Callaghan said no reports of an assault have been made to the Garda, which is the public police force in Ireland.

"No complaint has been made to An Garda Síochána in respect of that alleged criminal offence,” O’Callaghan said. "It's been referred to as an incident. I'm not aware that it's been reported to An Garda Síochána.

"If somebody has been the subject of an attack or an assault or a theft in the city centre, they must report it to An Garda Síochána."

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that no complaint had been made and there was no evidence of a robbery.

"Gardaí from Pearse Street on patrol on Dame Street in the early hours of Saturday morning [Sept. 27] encountered a male who required medical assistance," the statement read.

"The male in his 20s was treated and assessed at the scene by emergency services personnel. No formal complaint has been made by any person at this time. Following preliminary inquiries, An Garda Síochána has no further information to substantiate, or not, any report this incident involved a robbery."

Skylar Thompson injury update

Thompson, the team's fourth quarterback on the roster, is on injured reserve. The injury that placed him on IR is not related to the injuries that he sustained during the attack on Friday night.

Thompson is dealing with a hamstring injury. He is eligible to return from IR in Week 7. He suffered the injury in Week 1, leading up to the game against the New York Jets, where he was playing the role of Justin Fields for the scout team offense.

Thompson was the emergency third quarterback in Week 1, but placed on IR in Week 2. He must miss four games, and with the Steelers' bye week in Week 5, the team's game in Week 6 will be the fourth of his minimum stay on IR.
