Australia absolutely dominated in their first group match of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 as they beat Samoa 73 - 0 in Manchester.

The Wallaroos established themselves right from the first whistle, storming across the line after just 92 seconds of play. Their effortless set pieces didn’t give Samoa a chance to fight back, crossing the line a staggering ten times.

Although the Wallaroos had a few kicking errors, and Wood struggled to convert tries scored on the far left, they were an incredibly slick and impenetrable side.

The youngest ever Wallaroo to play in a World Cup, Caitlyn Halse, crossed the try line twice, as well as Desiree Miller also scoring her first ever World Cup try. Cecilia Smith was awarded Mastercard Player of the Match.

The crowd at Salford Community Stadium loudly supported the Samoan side, who are the underdogs of a star studded pool. They displayed some impressive physicality and defensive positions, but were ultimately unable to match the speed, aggression and execution of their Australian opposition.

Australia will face the USA, and Samoa will battle the world number one’s England next weekend for the next stage of the group rounds.
