In case you haven't heard, Taylor Swift has a new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl', coming out this fall, and the look she displays on the promo shots is an iconic one.

Legendary designer Bob Mackie offered some insight into the backstory of Swift's statement-making outfit via an Instagram post shared on August 19, where he revealed that Swift's ensemble was originally designed for the "Jewel Finale" of the Las Vegas show, "Jubilee." He captioned the post: "Produced by Don Arden; the show featured over 1,000 costumes based on Florenz Ziegfeld stage shows with elaborate couture costumes worn by the showgirls. It was the longest-running showgirl spectacular in history and ran from 1981 to 2016."

Mackie continued: "The bra, undergarments, and armbands are all French wirework and backed with a blush fabric for a nude illusion...the bra and underwear have set stones and drops at the under-bust of the bra and the waistline of the underwear."

Scheduled to release on October 3, Swift announced the album on the August 13, 2025, episode of boyfriend Travis Kelce's "New Heights" podcast, making it the most-watched podcast premiere ever. Swift's marketing team, Taylor Nation, shared 12 pictures of Swift from her Eras Tour with the caption, "Thinking about when she said, 'See you next era'", which is a reference to the last sentence in her Eras Tour book.

More updates are expected in the coming weeks.
