The Boston Red Sox have received a lot from Alex Bregman this season, but due to his success in Boston, he could opt out and try to either renegotiate or walk in free agency. Either way, the Sox are going to have to get uncomfortable to try and keep him.
Fansided’s Robert Murray believes so too, as he wrote that the Sox would have to compete with other eyes due to the caliber of player Bregman is.

“But a player of Bregman’s caliber and his performance in a big city is going to put increased eyeballs on him. Remember what Andrew Friedman once said about free agency: ‘If you’re always rational about every free agent, you will finish third on every free agent,’” Murray wrote.
Murray continued, stating the Sox would have to get irrational to keep Bregman, as Bregman’s agent Scott Boras will capitalize on the frenzy.
“That thinking feels applicable to Bregman. Because his price tag in free agency is likely going to get irrational, and his agent Scott Boras should be in position to capitalize,” Murray concluded.
This season, Bregman is slashing .278/.360/.475/.835 with 17 homers and 59 RBI over 104 games. He’s become a true leader of the team, and provides invaluable veteran and championship experience.
Hopefully the Sox don’t have to get too irrational to keep him, but they do have the money freed up from this season to be able to get uncomfortable.
