Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw did not pitch for the first month and a half of the 2025 MLB season. On Tuesday night, Kershaw made another start for the Dodgers against the Cincinnati Reds.
In the game, he pitched five innings and gave up two hits, one run, and one strikeout. Los Angeles won the game over Cincinnati 6-3. With the win for the Dodgers, they improve to 76-57 on the season, and the Reds drop to 68-65 on the year. Los Angeles currently leads the San Diego Padres by one game in the NL West standings, and the Reds trail the New York Mets by 3.5 games for the last Wild Card spot in the National League.
MLB Network analyst praises Los Angeles Dodgers starting Pitcher Clayton Kershaw for August
Kershaw had a 5-0 record in August and a 1.88 ERA. He has 19 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched. Mark DeRosa praised the 37-year-old starting pitcher on MLB Central for his latest performance. DeRosa said about Kershaw,
"It really is unbelievable, he's been able to re-invent himself."
This is huge for the Dodgers heading into September and the playoffs. Starting pitching has been a struggle for Los Angeles this season, and health has been a major concern in the starting rotation. Could there be a chance that he is the Game 1 starter for them in the postseason?
If he continues to pitch like this, there is no doubt he could be the "ace" in the playoffs for the Dodgers. In 17 games pitched for Los Angeles in 2025, he has a 9-2 record and a 3.06 ERA. In 88.1 innings pitched, he has given up 81 hits and 34 runs. Kershaw has also walked 21 batters and has 58 strikeouts. His WHIP is 1.15.
Kershaw is projected to make his next start for Los Angeles on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates on either Tuesday, September 2, or Wednesday, September 3. DeRosa is right that what Kershaw has done in August has been impressive.
