The New York Mets have set a new MLB record, and it's not necessarily one you set out to break.
On Wednesday night, Dom Hamel made his MLB debut for the Mets, and in the process, he became the 46th pitcher to appear in a game for the Mets this season.
No major league team has ever had more than the 46 pitchers New York has used this season.
Want to be overwhelmed?
How about the whole list of 46 guys:

The cause was helped by three position players on the list: Torrens, Jaknowski and Young.
It doesn't have to be a bad thing entirely. Some of those names are promising prospects who earned call ups late in the season.
But injuries and trades and ineffectiveness have also contributed to the long list.
All told, it's been quite the season of pitching for the Mets.
