The New York Mets have already called up Nolan McLean from Triple-A earlier this month. Well, New York decided to call up another top prospect from the minor leagues and promote pitching prospect Jonah Tong to the MLB level.
Tong only pitched in two games for the Syracuse Mets at the Triple-A level. In two games pitched with Syracuse, he had a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA. In 11.2 innings pitched, Tong gave up eight hits, zero runs, three walks, and 17 strikeouts. New York felt like he was more than ready to make an impact at the next level.
With the Mets having recent starting pitching issues, this is not a surprise that Tong received a promotion. He is just projected to start for New York on Friday against the Miami Marlins.

The Mets fanbase is undoubtedly excited about this move. For most of the season, the starting pitching has struggled to get past the sixth inning. David Peterson has been the best pitcher in this rotation this season.
With Tong joining the rotation, he will provide another spark to this baseball team. According to MLB.com, he is the Mets' #4 prospect. Tong started the 2025 season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in Double-A. His record was 8-5 with a 1.59 ERA. In 102.0 innings pitched, he only gave up 50 hits. Tong also walked 44 batters and struck out 162 batters.
