NASCAR at Road America results, highlights: Tyler Reddick captures first ever Cup Series win at Kwik Trip 250 image

With nothing but asphalt in front of him, Tyler Reddick and his team could finally breathe a sigh go relief.

The Richard Childress Racing driver was a much-accomplished driver on the Xfinity circuit, twice winning the competition. But he hadn't claimed a victory in the Cup Series until Sunday. Reddick out dueled Hendrick Motorsports' Chase Elliott to claim the Kwik Trip 250.

Elliott, who secured pole position in qualifying, led for 36 of the race's 62 laps. However, Reddick, who took 16 laps Sunday, outpaced him in the final stage and showed calm on Turns 5 and 6 to keep Elliott at arms length.

Reddick had finished as a runner-up in five previous races. However, the 26-year old finally etched his name into Cup Series history with his victory. And it seemed Reddick's fellow racers understood the significance of his showing, with Elliott, Brad Keselowski and others congratulating Reddick for his display.

Sporting News tracked live updates of the Kwik Trip 250 at Road America. Below are the results and highlights from Sunday's race.

NASCAR at Road America live updates, highlights from Kwik Trip 250

6:01 p.m.: Reddick captures the checkered flag and becomes the fifth first-time winner on the Cup Series Circuit! Unofficial top-five is Reddick, Elliott, Kyle Larson, Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez.

6:00 p.m.: One lap to go and Reddick looks in charge! About four seconds in front of Elliott. Not much left!

5:57 p.m.: Looks like Reddick's experience at Road America — he drove there during his time in the Xfinity Series — is serving him well. Two laps to go and he holds a four-second lead over Elliott. Just a little longer.

5:55 p.m.: Four laps to go, Reddick's lead has swelled to over 2.5 seconds in front of Elliott. If everything goes as planned and no caution flags are waved, Reddick looks poised to capture his first checkered flag in his Cup Series career.

5:50 p.m.: Reddick's lead grows to about 1.3 seconds. Six laps to go. If Reddick can hold on, he puts himself in prime position to compete in the Cup Series playoffs.

5:48 p.m.: Reddick still holding firm in first place. However, Elliott is less than a second behind Reddick and has proven effective in keeping the pace on these turns, specifically Turns 5 and 6.

5:40 p.m.: Reddick and Elliott putting on a clinic so far. 10 laps to go and both are being especially precise with their turns. Kyle Larson sits in a distant third, over eight seconds behind Reddick's pace.

It's a two-horse race and it seems we're headed for a real dramatic finish.

5:33 p.m.: Reddick leading the race with 13 laps left. The 26-year old has never notched a Cup Series race, but his showing on Sunday could go a long way in helping secure his status in the playoffs. Reddick entered the Kwik Trip 250 ranked No. 13 in Cup Series points this season.

5:23 p.m.: Reddick and Elliott have gone back and forth for the pole all day. With just 16 laps left, Reddick just edged in front of Elliott. Really enthralling watch so far.

4:43 p.m.: Logano and Wallace collided with one another, causing both to spin out. According to The Athletic's Jordan Bianchi, Logano and his team took the blame for for dust-up.

4:40 p.m.: Elliott opted to go into the pits, once again ceding pole position. Team Penske's Ryan Blaney looks like he will take the flag for Stage 2. Joey Hand has impressed so far and sits in second place, less than two seconds behind Blaney.

4:36 p.m.: William Byron headed to pit road once more. Seems he's having some issues with his wheels.

4:34 p.m.: Bubba Wallace and Joey Logano spin out after colliding with one another. Seems we're headed for a caution flag.

4:25 p.m.: Little contact between Daniel Suarez and Martin Truex Jr. Doesn't result in anything disastrous, but the race is still being hotly contested as it approaches its halfway point.

4:20 p.m.: Chase Elliott takes the lead once more. Kyle Larson sits in second, less than two seconds behind Elliott, followed by Tyler Reddick.

Briscoe, who clinched his seventh playoff point with his Stage 1 victory, dropped all the way to 13th place after heading to the pit.

4:02 p.m.: Chase Briscoe takes Stage 1!

3:56 p.m.: Elliott will head to the pit, conceding first place to Briscoe. Elliott will look to correct his wheel problem during his stop.

3:47 p.m.: Elliott holds a nearly four second edge over Briscoe after 10 laps. Seems the wheel issue he was concerned about prior to Sunday's race hasn't been too impactful so far.

3:41 p.m.: Ross Chastain doing Ross Chastain things. The No. 1 car makes an aggressive pass on Alex Bowman.

Chastain has received plenty of criticism for riding aggressively. Based on his start, though, it seems those comments haven't bothered him too much.

3:38 p.m.: Kyle Busch and Aric Almirola collide with one another on Turn 5.

Could be a massive issue for Almirola, who seemed to suffer slight damage. Almirola sits a few spots outside the Cup Series playoff seeds. A good result today could go a long way in helping the Stewart-Haas driver qualify for the end-of-season tournament.

3:30 p.m.: Elliott holds pole position after two laps, although Elliott seemed to be concerned about his No. 9 car prior to the race. Something to watch out for going forward.

3:27 p.m.: And we're off! Chase Elliott holds pole position, followed up by Chase Briscoe.

3:07 p.m.: The national anthem has been sang, the fighter jets are out and the racers are on the track. It's time for some racing!
