The Darian DeVries era is just a few months away, and Indiana basketball is already starting to regain some of its former glory. It’s still early, but DeVries is hitting the ground running, actively recruiting and looking to bring the Hoosiers back into national relevance.

One of the biggest names on his radar is top-15 national recruit and point guard Taylen Kinney. The five-star guard is one of the most highly regarded players in the 2026 recruiting class, and he’s set to make a visit to Bloomington this weekend.

Can DeVries land a commitment from Kinney? It’s too soon to tell, but the fact that he’s willing to visit Indiana speaks volumes about the program’s renewed credibility.

Kinney is rated as a five-star recruit with a near-perfect grade from 247Sports.

He’s the top point guard in the 2026 class and the highest-ranked recruit in Georgia. He has already visited Kansas and still has upcoming visits planned with Oregon, Texas, Miami (FL), and Arkansas.

If DeVries hopes to bring him to Bloomington, it’s going to be a competitive battle.

Right now, Indiana has just one commit in next year’s recruiting class.

That would be four-star guard Prince-Alexander Moody. He pledged back in June, giving the program an early boost. It’s a sign that DeVries is already making things happen.

Landing Kinney would be huge. He would bring energy and star power that Indiana hasn’t had in a while. A commitment like that would also show the Hoosiers can compete with the top programs in the country.

Even if Kinney goes somewhere else, the fact that Indiana is being talked about again is a win. It shows the program is heading in the right direction.
