The tide may have turned in Boulder, Colorado, on Saturday in Deion Sanders’ ongoing quarterback competition. During the Buffs’ 31-7 win over the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens, Ryan Staub emerged as the best option in a room that includes Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter and $1.2 million NIL-valuated 4-star freshman Julian Lewis.

Staub threw for 157 yards and a pair of touchdown passes in a performance Coach Prime hinted had earned the Stevenson Ranch, California, native the starting job next season.

Sanders dropped what Robert Griffin III called a “bar,” following up Staub saying he “had a dream” and followed through with it in the Buffs’ QB room by calling him “Martin Luther Staub.” And a meme was born.

Sanders also proclaimed that we all saw what he did in the Mike Sanford-recruited signal-caller’s performance on Saturday. It’s hard not to read between the lines there, something FOX Sports’ Jason Benetti called during the broadcast.

In an instant, Staub was an overnight sensation for CU. After two years backing up Shedeur and being urged to find a home he can start, Staub fought hard to make that place the University of Colorado Boulder.

Staub survived the initial exodus of 2022 players and proved himself on Sanders’ first Buffs coaching staff.

Now, he’s being pushed to start for the Buffs in the post-Shedeur era. Life comes at you quick.

FOX Sports’ RJ Young advocated for Staub to be QB1 before the score went final. And there’s not much pushback on that from a fanbase that hasn’t seen much from Salter or Lewis so far.
