Davis Wade Stadium will be the stage Saturday night as Mississippi State opens its home slate, aiming to play spoiler against No. 12 Arizona State. The Bulldogs, fresh off a 34-17 road win over Southern Miss, are eyeing a statement upset to kick their season into high gear.

The Sun Devils got the better of Mississippi State last fall, bullying the trenches in a 30-23 victory where they piled up 346 rushing yards and hogged the clock for more than 40 minutes. That win marked their first-ever triumph over an SEC opponent.

Both squads come in 1-0 after dispatching in-state foes in Week 1. Arizona State handled Northern Arizona 38-19 in Tempe, while the Bulldogs took care of business in Hattiesburg.

Despite the win, AP voters weren’t impressed with the defending Big 12 champs, nudging the Sun Devils down a notch in the rankings. Head coach Ken Dillingham wasn’t thrilled either. His team drew 12 flags and sputtered to a 1-for-10 mark on third downs against a Northern Arizona team that reached the FCS playoffs last season.
