Le’Veon Moss, Texas A&M’s veteran running back, is set to play in Saturday night’s season opener against UTSA, head coach Mike Elko confirmed Tuesday.
“Yeah, Le’Veon’s good to go,” Elko said during a media availability. “He’s had a really, really strong two weeks, and we’re excited to get him back out there and see him perform.” Moss returns after a season-ending knee injury suffered in early November at South Carolina, closing out a breakout junior campaign in which he led the Aggies with 765 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Across three seasons in College Station, Moss has racked up 1,363 rushing yards and 16 scores, including three games topping 100 yards in 2024 and an average of nearly 8.5 yards per carry in those showings.
Texas A&M RB Le’Veon Moss cleared to play in season opener vs. UTSA, Elko says
Texas A&M, ranked No. 19 entering the season, hopes Moss can anchor a dynamic backfield featuring Rueben Owens II—himself returning from injury—Amari Daniels, and EJ Smith, son of Dallas Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith. The Aggies are looking to take a step forward and compete for a College Football Playoff berth this fall, with Moss’s health a key storyline for the team’s aspirations.
Moss faced adversity off the field this offseason, including a brief legal issue involving a disorderly conduct charge later dismissed by the city of College Station, his attorney told KBTX. The talented 6-foot, 210-pound back is intent on building on last year’s impressive numbers, after analysts like Greg McElroy called him one of the nation’s best runners before the injury.
“He runs with good pad level, initiates contact, and creates violence,” McElroy said on Always College Football. “He would have 100 percent been in our top 10 if not for that injury against South Carolina.”
Moss and Texas A&M will officially return in Saturday’s 7 p.m. matchup against UTSA, broadcast on ESPN.
