Ole Miss rolls over Tulane with unsung hero image

Rebels’ new quarterback proves he’s ready for the spotlight

Trinidad Chambliss wasn’t supposed to be Ole Miss’s starting quarterback this soon. But with Austin Simmons still working back from a serious ankle injury, the Rebels turned to the redshirt sophomore, and he’s delivered in a big way. Saturday against Tulane, Chambliss showed why he may keep the job for good.

Chambliss threw for two touchdowns and ran for 112 yards, powering No. 13 Ole Miss to a commanding 45-10 win. His 307 passing yards came on just 27 attempts, a balance of efficiency and aggression that stretched Tulane’s defense thin.

Chambliss connected with Deuce Alexander on a 33-yard strike that gave Ole Miss a 23-3 lead at the break. His 14 carries kept drives alive, including scrambles that set up short touchdown runs for Kewan Lacy. Even when Tulane’s front forced him out of the pocket, Chambliss kept his composure and found seven different receivers.

The Rebels piled up 548 yards of offense and scored on every red-zone trip, while Tulane managed just 282 yards. More importantly, Chambliss’ play gives Simmons extra time to recover without rushing back.

Ole Miss faces a tougher test next week with No. 3 LSU visiting Oxford. For now, though, the story is clear: Trinidad Chambliss has arrived, and the Rebels’ ceiling looks higher with him under center.
