The Indianapolis Colts took a chance on Tyler Warren, picking the former Penn State tight end No. 14 overall in the NFL Draft. When a team spends that kind of pick, there’s a lot of pressure, but Warren is already showing he belongs.

His journey’s been something else. Coming out of Atlee High School in Virginia, Warren was just a three-star recruit. But over the years, he’s worked hard to become one of the best tight ends around — so much so that he even got some Heisman talk and now is a first-round pick.

When the preseason started, you could tell Warren wasn’t just along for the ride. Sure, he’s an older rookie, and the NFL moves way faster than college ball, but he’s keeping up just fine.

Even Pro Football Focus has noticed.

They ranked him as one of the top rookies after the first week of preseason, giving him a solid grade. Only a few guys scored better, like Will Campbell from New England and Grey Zabel from Seattle.

Warren saw limited snaps with the starters in the preseason matchup against the Ravens but managed to catch three passes for 40 yards. During his time at Penn State, he played a vital role in the offense and contributed to the team’s postseason success.

In his final year, he caught 104 passes for over 1,200 yards and scored eight touchdowns.

Originally a three-star recruit, Warren’s development has been impressive—he earned a spot as a first-round NFL draft pick. He started as a three-star recruit and became a first-round pick, showing how much he has improved.

Based on how he’s playing now, the Colts made a good choice.
