The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons are at an impasse.
The former Penn State star has been in a messy contract dispute with the team, and it doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon. While the Cowboys are famous for prolonged extension negotiations, this one feels different, with both parties exchanging jabs in the media and Parsons demanding a trade.
It leaves Dallas fans wondering whether or not Parsons will be suited up for the Cowboys' Week 1 matchup against the reigning Super Bowl champions and hated division rival Philadelphia Eagles.
Dak Prescott Breaks His Silence on the Micah Parsons Situation
Over the last few weeks, head coach Brian Schottenheimer and starting quarterback Dak Prescott have been asked by the media about Parsons' situation, which is an unfortunate byproduct of public contract disputes.
Prescott had this to say regarding his confidence in Parsons' availability for Week 1:
"I’ve got confidence," he told the media. "I’ve told ya’ll that way back when. And I’m just going off experience, honestly. No different than mine. I’ve got confidence in that. Just hoping, which I know he is, he’s ready to play."
Prescott is no stranger to the Cowboys' negotiation tactics, as he went through this just last year. Entering the last year of his previous contract, he was made the highest-paid quarterback in the league just the day before Dallas' season-opening matchup against the Cleveland Browns in 2024.
"When you’re here in this organization, this is just how you see things are done, whether they’re right, wrong or whoever has their view about them. But what I think that does help is allow us just to stay focused on our jobs and understanding that us putting energy towards any of that doesn’t help."
While surely Prescott and the rest of the Cowboys organization would like all of their focus to be on the Eagles, the Parsons narrative will not go away until there is a resolution. Whether they make him the highest-paid defender in the league or trade him for a haul remains to be seen.
