The Texas Longhorns are one of the premier college football programs, and they really have been for a long time. Unfortunately, they've not had a ton of success recently, at least in comparison to the other elite programs. That's why they landed on CBS Sports' list of overrated programs in the last decade.
Texas squeaked on at number nine, with Tennessee coming in just behind them. That might sound shocking, especially with where the program is at today, but we can't ignore the last decade.
"Take it easy, Longhorns fans: Texas is finally on the other side of it now with a 25-5 mark over the past two seasons leading into the dawn of Arch Manning's starting tenure," CBS insider David Cobb said. Unfortunately, it's still been rough the last several years.
"Tthe 2015-24 run began with consecutive losing seasons under Charlie Strong before a lukewarm four-year tenure for Tom Herman," Cobb said. This does not help the overall record, even if it's still 80-49 in that stretch. A better run for those coaches might've avoided this list.
"Texas also went just 4-7 against Oklahoma over the past decade," Cobb noted. "Steve Sarkisian now ranks as the No. 4 coach in the sport, but he was just 13-12 through two seasons before correcting the program's course with consecutive CFP semifinal appearances." This might be their year, and that could help them remove some of the luster from this bygone era.
