The Dallas Cowboys may soon have to part ways with Micah Parsons. This comes after the star linebacker formally requested a trade from the organization following events he was clearly unhappy with. Parsons once hoped to spend his entire career in Dallas — but now, that no longer seems to be his plan.

“Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally,” Parsons posted.

The source of the trade request appears to stem from Jerry Jones’s longtime practice of negotiating directly with players — bypassing their agents. Parsons reportedly took issue with this tactic.

“The fact that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys believe they can negotiate a 9-figure extension with Micah Parsons without involving his agent says everything about the current state of the franchise. This entire situation is laughable from the Dallas side. It could’ve — and should’ve — been avoided. But instead, the Cowboys operated with pure arrogance, foolishness and stubbornness,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted.

While the exact terms of the proposed contract are unknown, Jones recently stated that the offer would have made Parsons the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.

“I've agreed to give more money than has ever been given in terms of guaranteed money than anyone ever has as far as a defensive player," Jones said. "I've done that. Now, I am the cat that writes the check. Now Micah's got three years with the Cowboys left. He's got three years. At some point somebody has to have the say over the other. At some point it has to be that way.”

This all underscores that Parsons is firm in his stance: he won’t sign any deal that doesn’t include his agent. While the Cowboys still have time to repair the relationship, it remains to be seen whether the damage is permanent — or if there's still room for damage control. One thing is clear: if Parsons is willing to negotiate, Jerry Jones is ready to pay.
