If you thought the injury to Marcus Davenport would create some urgency in the Detroit Lions' building, guess again.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell did an interview on 97.1 The Ticket Wednesday and doesn't sound at all concerned about the team's depth at edge rusher after Davenport sustained two injuries in Week 2.

Campbell also didn't have an update on the veteran and said he should know more later in the week.

"Nothing new there," he said of Davenport. "I mean, I’m probably not going to know till the end of the week. But as far as depth, we’re good. We’re in a pretty good place here. We made some acquisitions, Brad (Holmes) did, right out of camp so we’re pretty good depth-wise here but we’ll know more at the end of the week."

Davenport exited the Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears twice, once with an ankle injury and once with a shoulder injury. The latter appears to be the concern at the moment, although that hasn't been confirmed.

While we don't have any information on the severity of Davenport's injuries, the Lions head coach did say that the team is seeking a second opinion.

That suggests Detroit didn't like what it saw after initial tests.

"We're still getting things looked at with that. We'll see where that's at. For Monday (will he play)? I don't know. It's a good question. I'm hoping it won't be too bad, but until we get a couple of these second opinions back, I won't know for sure," he explained on Monday.

If Davenport is forced to miss time, the Lions will have two edge rushers left on their 53-man roster in Aidan Hutchinson and Al-Quadin Muhammad.

We know Hutchinson is a stud, but the same cannot be said for Muhammad.

Now, Muhammad has played well in Detroit over his season-plus with the team, but not to the extent that we can have total confidence in him as a starter. He is much better suited as a backup.

That's not exactly an ideal situation for a Lions team with Super Bowl aspirations. And, the Lions are just one Hutchinson injury away from having a total disaster on their hands.

This exact situation is what Lions fans feared all offseason as general manager Brad Holmes sat on his hands and did almost nothing to improve the group and instead decided to rely on an injury-prone Davenport for a key role.

In fact, Holmes actually made the situation worse by cutting Za'Darius Smith and then not re-signing him before a top NFC foe, the Philadelphia Eagles, scooped Smith up.

And, Campbell saying the Lions were "good" when asked why the team did not re-sign Smith was probably the final straw for the veteran, who signed with the Eagles not long after Campbell's comment.

Maybe all Lions fans who are concerned with how the team has handled the edge rusher group will be proven wrong and everything will work out.

But, right now, it doesn't look like things are heading that way.
