It’s been rough sledding for Daniel Scott in his NFL career.

The Colts drafted the safety out of Cal in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. But both Scott’s rookie and second season in the league were lost after he suffered season-ending injuries in the spring prior to each year.

It took until the Colts’ preseason opener against the Ravens, three years after he was drafted, for Scott to play his first snaps at the professional level.

The good news for both Scott and the Colts has been that he’s looked excellent during training camp and in the three preseason contests, marked by a splash play he made in the first half against the Bengals in the final tune up game.

The 26-year-old intercepted Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder at the Bengals 35-yard line and turned down the left sideline, running all the way into the end zone for a pick-six. The play gave the Colts an early 10-0 lead in the contest.

It was a must-needed play for Scott, who needed to turn heads in preseason to secure himself a spot on the Colts 53-man roster to begin the 2025 season.

He got the play he needed, proving he’s right in the thick of the competition for a safety spot towards the bottom of the depth chart after adding two tackles as well.

Scott is currently listed as the backup strong safety behind Nick Cross, but the Colts are likely to have to make a decision between him, Rodney Thomas II and Trey Washington when rosters must be whittled down to 53 on Aug, 26.
