Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren is already a popular 20225 breakout candidate as a rookie, who seems likely to follow in Raiders second-year tight end Brock Bowers’ footsteps.
As the hype continues to build around the first-round pick, Warren has gained the belief of a former great at his position, Rob Gronkowski.
Gronkowski recently went on the Ryen Russillo Podcast and gushed over Warren as a player. He sees elements of his own game in Warren’s.
“He kind of reminded me of myself,” Gronkowski said in reference to Warren’s tape in Indy’s first preseason game against the Ravens, even breaking down some of the plays where he saw emulations of his career with the Patriots and Buccaneers.
“He ran my play-action over route, he knew how to get open and get away from the linebackers, he knew the exact target like where to go because it's a feel route, you know, depending on how much the linebackers bite…he ran it to perfection.”
This isn’t the first time Warren has received lofty praise and has been grouped in with great NFL tight ends. He drew a comparison to Antionio Gates from Shane Steichen earlier this offseason.
But this time, the praise comes straight from the horse’s mouth. For Warren to be getting as much positive press as he is before playing a regular season game not only speaks volumes of his ability, but shows that the expectations are already very high.
The Colts hope he can become the final piece to their offense that’s been missing during their four-year playoff drought.
