The NFL is in the middle of a prime trade period as teams begin to build their initial 53-man rosters to open the regular season.

With some wide receivers already on the move, like Skyy Moore leaving Kansas City for the 49ers and John Metchie III joining the Eagles, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay says the Colts should trade one of their young wide receivers for a day three pick.

Kay proposes the Colts should trade Alec Pierce to the Vikings for a fourth-round pick, saying Indy should get ahead of Pierce’s expiring contract and pick up something in return.

“The Colts are trending towards another trying season without a solution to their quarterback woes. While Daniel Jones has beaten out incumbent starter Anthony Richardson, it's going to be tough for the veteran signal-caller to get this middling franchise into contention,” Kay wrote. “The Vikings fit the bill as a potential suitor for Pierce, given the squad is dealing with a three-week suspension to Jordan Addison and could be without Jalen Nailor while he nurses a hand injury.”

While the Vikings could do with adding another wide receiver, the Colts are simply not in a position to be getting rid of players. 2025 is too consequential of a season for head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard, as missing the playoffs likely seals their fates as Indianapolis heads for an organizational rebuild.

Pierce is an intriguing trade commodity, though. The 25-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, catching 37 passes for 827 yards and seven touchdowns. He also led the NFL in yards per reception with 22.3.

Indy is unlikely to get rid of their pass catchers before the season. But if their season goes completely backwards, Pierce may become a popular target at the trade deadline.
