The Kansas City Chiefs won't have star wide receiver Rashee Rice for the first six games of the 2025 season after he was suspended by the NFL late last month.

Rice was a second-round pick of the Chiefs in 2023 and put together an impressive rookie campaign that saw him tally 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games.

Rice's sophomore campaign did not go nearly as well. The SMU product appeared in just four games before suffering a torn ACL that ended his season early. Rice posted 288 yards and two scores over his four contests.

Now, Rice will miss one-third of his third season in the NFL. Here's what's behind his six-game suspension from the league.

Rashee Rice suspension explained

Rice's suspension came as a result of his conviction for causing a "multi-vehicle chain-reaction collision" in March of last year, according to NFL.com.

Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury.

The Chiefs wideout was sentenced to 30 days in jail as a result of those charges.

Along with missing the Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Rice is also out for the Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Week 3 game versus the New York Giants, the Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Week 5 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Week 6 matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Over two seasons in the NFL, Rice has tallied 103 catches for 1,226 yards and nine touchdowns over 20 games (12 starts).
