The Las Vegas Raiders have some contract drama with a shade under two weeks to go before the regular-season opener.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Raiders veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade. Rapoport notes that Meyers' desire to be traded is stemming from the two sides' failure to reach an agreement on an extension.

However, the Raiders have no plans on trading Meyers, Rapoport adds.

"Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers recently met with team brass and requested to be traded," Rapoport reported. "The team, citing his value, said they had no plans to do so. Meyers and the team attempted to negotiate a new contract, but could not come to terms."

Meyers has not been shy about his desire for a new contract as he enters the final year of his current one. However, he never held in or out and even took part in preseason play amid his wanting a new deal.

The former New England Patriot inked a three-year deal with the Raiders in 2023 and has been as consistent as they come.

After posting an 800-yard campaign in 2023, Meyers had a career-best 1,027 yards in 2024, which is made more impressive by the fact that he had to overcome terrible quarterback play and shared the same offense as Brock Bowers.

In 2025, Meyers sits atop the wide receiver depth chart, where the Raiders have no shortage of question marks behind him. Las Vegas is set to depend on Tre Tucker and rookies Dont'e Thornton and Jack Bech for significant roles.

That gives Meyers at least some leverage, but only if the Raiders really believe he's going to sit out if he doesn't get what he wants.

We would suspect he won't, and we also expect the Raiders will fight like hell to avoid trading him because he is important to the offense this season.
