The Las Vegas Raiders could have a backup quarterback controversy on their hands.

Though Aidan O'Connell was expected to run away with the QB2 job, rookie Cam Miller has shown a ton of promising flashes in the preseason thus far, leading to some questions on whether head coach Pete Carroll could shake up the quarterback depth chart.

One Raiders beat writer, Vincent Bonsignore of The Las Vegas Review-Journal, isn't ruling out the possibility of Miller overtaking O'Connell as the backup behind Geno Smith.

"O’Connell has had a subpar preseason, throwing three interceptions in his two appearances. That, plus the development of rookie sixth-round pick Cam Miller, could cause the Raiders to reassess their quarterback pecking order at some point," Bonsignore wrote.

"Carroll is a firm believer in rewarding players who prove they deserve promotions, however. He won’t hesitate to make a move if Miller shows he’s a better option than O’Connell."

O'Connell's experience as a starter gives him the edge over Miller, but the Purdue product has had an uninspiring preseason and continues to struggle with turnovers.

On the other hand, Miller has been way better than expected to start his career, though he has still endured some of the normal rookie quarterback struggles.

If Miller outperforms O'Connell in the final preseason game versus the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, Las Vegas has a tough decision to make. We'll see who ends up winning the job as the backup signal-caller heading into Week 1.
