Russell Wilson has won a lot of games as a starting quarterback in the NFL, including a Super Bowl. So, when he makes a practice suggestion to New York Giants coach Brian Daboll, it's wise to listen.

And that's exactly what Daboll has done during the Giants' offseason program after Wilson recommended the team have more competitive 7-on-7 reps during OTAs and minicamp.

“That’s something that Russell feels really good about,” Daboll said Thursday. “We’ve added some competitive periods where they have to play the situations out. Not that we didn’t do that, but we’ve placed a little bit more emphasis on it. And not just a third-down situation, but maybe a quarter in a game, time left, score. We’ve done pretty much, I’d say every day we’ve done a little bit of that.”

Wilson will begin the 2025 season as the unquestioned QB1 for Big Blue, and if Daboll and his coaching staff have their way, he'll remain atop the quarterback depth chart all season. Why? Because it would mean the Giants are winning games.

But reality will likely paint a different picture. New York has the NFL's most difficult schedule this year, and with Jaxson Dart, the team's first-round quarterback waiting in the wings, Wilson's leash won't be long.

Still, he's already paying dividends for an offense that's in the ultimate transition season. After struggling through middling quarterback play in 2024, the New York Giants finally have a respectable QB room that includes a wide spectrum of personalities.

Wilson is the leader of the bunch, and Daboll is is doing the right thing by listening.

“I think it’s important to listen to the quarterbacks. They’re the ones that are touching the ball on every play,” Daboll said.
