Who plays on 'Sunday Night Football' tonight? Time, TV channel, schedule for NFL Week 7 image

"Sunday Night Football" went into overtime last week in a matchup between an NFC West team and one of last year's AFC playoff teams. NBC will hope to get a similarly strong matchup in NFL Week 7.

The home team in this contest is well-rested coming off a bye. They have dealt with plenty of injuries to start the season, especially at cornerback, and also saw their quarterback held out in Week 5 due to a calf injury. Jimmy Garoppolo seems ready to return in Week 7, so that will provide the team with a higher floor against their opponent.

The visiting team is coming off a blowout win, just its second of the season. The team's quarterback, Carson Wentz, has thrown just one interception so far this year, which is good for the f among qualified quarterbacks this year. This comes after he led the league with 15 picks last season, so it seems like he's progressing now that he's with Frank Reich again.

Reich and Kyle Shanahan will go head-to-head in this matchup of two strong offensive coaches. This should be a close and exciting game as a result.

Below is more about the Week 7 matchup, plus everything to know about how to watch "Sunday Night Football."

Who plays on 'Sunday Night Football' tonight?

  • Matchup: Colts at 49ers
  • Location: Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

The Colts (2-4) are traveling to Santa Clara to take on the 49ers (2-3). San Francisco is fresh off a bye week and will get Garoppolo back at quarterback after a calf injury kept him out in Week 5. Trey Lance started in place of Jimmy G, but he may not be available after suffering an injury of his own in his start.

Garoppolo will need to play well if the 49ers want to score. The Colts' defense has been solid of late. They limited the hapless Texans to three points in Week 6 and held the Ravens to nine points deep into the second half of Week 5 before top cornerback Xavier Rhodes exited the game. After that, Lamar Jackson led the comeback.

Rhodes is healthy now, so that will give the Colts a good chance to slow down the 49ers' offense, as he'll work hard to contain Deebo Samuel. Meanwhile, George Kittle is still out with a calf injury, so the 49ers might need their backup tight end Ross Dwelley and No. 2 wideout Brandon Aiyuk to step up in this one.

Meanwhile, the Colts will rely on Wentz to carry their passing game. T.Y. Hilton's return provided him with a boost against the Texans while Michael Pittman Jr. continues to play well. Jonathan Taylor has been hot of late too, so the Colts will look to run a well-balanced offense to outscore the 49ers. San Francisco lacks depth at cornerback, but they have a strong pass rush headlined by Nick Bosa.

This game will also feature the two teams involved in the DeForest Buckner trade. Buckner, a defensive tackle, was traded to the Colts before the 2020 season in exchange for a draft pick that later became Javon Kinlaw, another defensive tackle. Buckner was an All-Pro in 2020 while Kinlaw has 41 tackles and 1.5 career sacks.
