49ers' Jauan Jennings' contract, trade saga gets badly timed injury update image

Jauan Jennings reportedly wants a new contract, or maybe a trade.

But whatever comes next for the San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver will have to wait.

That's because Jennings left Sunday's training camp practice with a calf injury.

How bad is it?

“I don’t know,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after practice. “I’ll hear about it later today with anybody who goes out of practice, but that’s why I know he went out. That’s what he had in OTAs, so I’m sure it’s similar.”

It's not ideal for Jennings to have a recurring calf injury.

The 49ers really need him healthy, given that Brandon Aiyuk still isn't.

Jennings showed last season that he can deliver when pressed into a bigger role. He had career bests in catches, with 77, yards, with 975, and touchdowns, with six.

San Francisco can't afford to miss out on that entirely, so hopefully the nagging calf problem doesn't keep nagging.
