Brent Burns could probably quote Toby Keith to sum up his current standing in the NHL.
I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.
Burns will be a Hall of Famer, but he's coming off a 29-point season for the Carolina Hurricanes where his ice time took a sharp hit.
Still, Burns will play on at age 40.
Pro Hockey Rumors predicts Burns to re-sign with the Hurricanes on a one-year deal for $5 million.
"He did finish as high as 10th in Norris Trophy voting as recently as two years ago and can still be a good top-four presence – something there aren’t many of on the open market this summer – but he likely won’t receive any multi-year offers," PHR writes.

Burns was drafted in the first round way back in 2003.
The 6-foot-5 righty spent seven seasons with the Wild, then 11 with the Sharks, before the last three in Carolina.
He has played 1,497 NHL games with 261 goals and 649 assists.
He also has 1,721 blocks and 1,391 hits.
Burns is a legend, with a legendary beard, and whether it's Carolina or elsewhere, he'll be skating powerfully in the NHL once again in 2025-26.
