The Washington Capitals clearly saw something in Justin Sourdif.
They traded two draft picks to the Florida Panthers to get him, including a 2026 second-rounder. That's after Sourdif, a 2020 third-rounder, had played just four NHL games since he was drafted.
And then on Saturday, the Caps signed Sourdif to a two-year deal worth $1.65 million.
The winger is still just 23 years old, so he could still have untapped potential. It wasn't realized on a stacked Florida team.
Sourdif's contract does mean he'd have to clear waivers to be sent down to the AHL, so he has a strong chance to make the NHL roster.

He scored his lone NHL goal this season for the Panthers.
In 149 AHL games, Sourdif has 35 goals and 61 assists.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound speedster hails from British Columbia and played prior to his drafting with the Vancouver Giants.
Now, Sourdif will try to prove he was worth the cost.
