Jason Day, to no one’s surprise, comes in as the favorite to win the season-ending Tour Championship this week at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, offered at 3-to-1 odds at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. Day’s odds to win the FedEx Cup – the PGA Tour’s four-tournament playoff that culminates with this week’s event – are 5-to-4.
The top five players in the points standings -- along with Day, they are Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson and Bubba Watson – can claim the Cup automatically by winning the Tour Championship. Their odds are set accordingly.
Rory McIlroy, therefore, is not among the favorites to win the FedEx Cup despite having the second shortest odds to win this week’s tournament, as he sits in 11th place and needs to win the event plus get lots of help to earn the title.
