Newly-crowned French Open champion Coco Gauff will look to continue her winning momentum as she begins the quest for a first Wimbledon title. The American star faces Dayana Yastremska in the opening round on Tuesday.
Gauff ended the decade-long title drought for US players in Paris by capturing her first French Open title last month. She is now aiming to become the first American since Serena Williams in 2015 to win the 'Channel Slam' -- the French Open-Wimbledon double in the same year. She is seeded second at the major and starts as one of the title favorites.
Even though Gauff took her first steps on the big stage at Wimbledon in 2019, where she entered the major as a 15-year-old qualifier and went all the way to the fourth round, she hasn't quite lived up to expectations on grass. The American hasn't reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon yet but will be keen to improve that record.
She has drawn a tricky first-round opponent in Yastremska. The Ukranian is ranked No 42 in the world, but has built some momentum on grass by reaching the final of the Nottingham Open, a tune-up event for Wimbledon.
