The first domino has fallen for Louisiana's Class of 2027 college football prospects.

Evangel junior quarterback Peyton "Pop" Houston committed to LSU in front of friends, family, teammates and classmates on his 17th birthday Monday morning.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Houston is a top 200 prospect in the nation according to 247 Sports and has gained 32 offers from many of the top schools in the nation such as Oklahoma, Georgia and Notre Dame.

"It's been a moment that I've been working for my whole life," Houston said to media members in attendance. "To be able to do it in front of my classmates and team members, it just meant a lot to me."

Houston passed for 4,480 yards and 38 touchdowns last season, but turned in a performance of a lifetime against Captain Shreve with a national record 817 yards and eight touchdowns. Houston also has shown the ability to scramble -- rushing for 690 yards and seven touchdowns.

Houston is off to a fast start in 2025 with 664 passing yards and five touchdowns in the first two weeks. He has added 189 yards and two touchdowns rushing.

Houston's commitment is the first in a loaded 2027 Louisiana quarterback class that includes Dunham's Elijah Haven, the top quarterback in the nation according to 247 Sports.
