Idaho high school football top 25 rankings

1. Rigby (3-0) - The reigning 6A state champions, who have won four out of six, appear well on their way to another. They've now won 14 straight games after a 42-38 win over Syracuse, Utah last week.

2. Rocky Mountain (2-0) - The Grizzlies, a state championship contender year in and year out, are on their way to doing so again with a pair of victories over out-of-state teams.

3. Eagle (2-0) - The Mustangs, a 6A state finalist from a year ago, have outscored their first two opponents 73-27.

4. Hillcrest (2-0) - The defending 5A state champions seem to be once again the team to beat after routing Bonneville 49-14 for a fourth straight win in the Civil War last week.

5. Bishop Kelly (2-0) - The Knights, who have eight state championships to their names, have racked up 112 points through the first two games with 62 coming last week against Minco, a state semifinal team from a year ago.

6. Skyline (2-0) - The Grizzlies, who have the most state championship hardware of anyone in the 5A level with nine and counting, are in the mix once again even with a largely brand new team.

7. Timberline (2-0) - This is unfamiliar territory for the Wolves, who had a 15-game losing streak just two years ago, but five Division I commits have helped completely turn things around.

8. Sugar-Salem (3-0) - The Diggers are currently the best dynasty in the state with six state championships over the last seven years - a feat only one other team in Idaho history has accomplished.

9. Madison (2-1) - Good teams find a way to win and despite not scoring a single touchdown last week, the Bobcats prevailed thanks to the leg of Braysen Stoddard, who drilled a 44-yard field goal against Middleton as time expired.

10. Kendrick (3-0) - The Tigers, who have won four consecutive state championships in 2A, continue to dominate even with a cast of new characters, including a head coach that isn't even old enough to drink yet.

11. Lakeland (3-0) - The Hawks were just a play or two from making the Class 5A state championship game, they're on track to get back there with this start.

12. Homedale (2-0) - The Trojans have done everything over the last seven years, but win a state title, is this finally the year?

13. Fruitland (3-0) - After making 11 state championship games and winning four of them over a 12-year span (2006-17), it's been up and down for the Grizzlies. But a return to form looks to be in order.

14. Mountain View (1-1) - The Mavericks had their first losing season in 14 years last season, but have the chance to make a statement Friday in the Battle of the Mountains with crosstown rival Rocky Mountain.

15. Highland (2-1) - The Rams experienced their worst loss in more than 20 years last week in a 70-6 loss to Skyridge (UT.), but this is still the most storied program in Idaho history.

16. Sandpoint (3-0) - The Bulldogs are off to their best start since 2009 after the first losing season in seven years last season.

17. Owyhee (2-0) - The Storm are off to a 2-0 start for the fourth consecutive season.

18. Middleton (1-1) - The Vikings were just a missed field goal away from pulling out a win over No. 9 Madison, so they're still a team to take seriously.

19. Carey (2-0) - The reigning 1A state champions appear well in line for an eighth state championship overall.

20. North Fremont (3-0) - The Huskies are off to a 3-0 start for the eighth consecutive season and arguably look like the best team in 3A thus far.

21. South Fremont (2-1) - The Cougars just picked up a signature win over West Side, which has won five of six state titles in 3A.

22. West Side (1-1) - The Pirates are still the team to beat in 3A as the reigning state champions even after a narrow 34-40 loss to South Fremont last week.

23. Thunder Ridge (2-0) - The Titans have never had a winning season in the program's now eight-year history, but they're unbeaten right now.

24. Capital (1-1) - The Eagles narrowly lost to the 17th-ranked Storm, showing that maybe after three straight losing seasons, the once proud program is back.

25. Post Falls (1-1) - The Trojans were just edged out by the 16th-ranked Bulldogs, perhaps indicating that they're maybe the team to beat in the Inland Empire League.
