Georgia's No. 7 Grayson blew out North Carolina power Mallard Creek, 63-13, in Georgia Friday night.

LOGANVILLE, Georgia, Sept. 5 — No Travis Burgess?

No problem.

For the second week in a row, the No. 7 Grayson Rams took on a high profile out-of-state opponent without their injured senior 4-star quarterback, who's committed to Bill Belichick's North Carolina Tar Heels. And for the second week in a row, they won without him, this time in blowout fashion over the Mallard Creek [Charlotte, NC] Mavericks, 63-13, Friday night.

Burgess was ruled out for the season prior to last week's big 24-23 overtime win over the Thompson [Alabaster, AL] Warriors in The Sporting News High School Football Game of the Week. Burgess's presence was definitely missed in that game against the No. 14 Warriors who led most of the way. But Grayson's defense came through in the red zone repeatedly, forcing turnovers at crucial moments, and keeping the game close until the offense got going in the second half.

This time, Grayson's offense was rolling from the start. The Rams jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead, then added 14 points in each of the remaining three quarters to run the Mavericks back out of Georgia to the Tar Heel State where Burgess plans to play college football next fall. His loss was expected to hamper Grayson's ability to make a run at the national championship – and, possibly, to defend their state title – but the Rams looked up to both challenges Friday night.

Grayson (4-0) will take a well-timed break as they turn their attention to Georgia's Class 6A region play next. They'll visit the Grovetown [GA] Warriors on Friday, September 19, and it will be all Georgia opponents from here to the finish line.

Mallard Creek (2-1) will, no doubt, be glad to return to in-state action next week, too, as the North Carolinians will take on the Myers Park [Charlotte, NC] Mustangs.
