No. 24 Corner Canyon of Draper, Utah, will take on West Broward as one of the feature games in the Broward County National Football Showcase.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, Aug. 22 — After a two-and-a-half-hour weather delay, the No. 24 Corner Canyon [Draper, UT] Chargers and the West Broward [Pembroke Pines, FL] Bobcats finally got things started.

For a little while at least.

Shortly after getting the game kicked off, players were called off the field for another significant weather delay. A game that was scheduled for a late afternoon kick at 4 p.m. EST would eventually end up lasting until after 9 p.m.

When they were actually playing football, it was a mostly one-sided affair with Corner Canyon cruising to a comfortable 38-13 win in a game that was part of the Broward County National Football Showcase series. The Chargers looked and played like a team ranked No. 24 should, and West Broward mostly looked like an unranked squad with no answers for the Utah powerhouse.

Future Texas A&M Aggie Helaman Casuga got the scoring started for the Chargers just under the five-minute mark of the first quarter. The 4-star quarterback carried the ball in for a 6-yard touchdown run to put Corner Canyon in front 7-0 in a game they would never trail.

Following a Josh Harris interception, the Chargers took over at their own 1-yard line near the end of the first quarter. Casuga then drove Corner Canyon down the field inside West Broward's 10 where the Chargers settled for a second-quarter field goal to make it 10-0.

The Bobcats then briefly mounted a challenge in the third quarter when Amir Sears scored on a 10-yard run to trim Corner Canyon's lead to 17-7. But a quick response by Casuga and company to extend the lead back to 17 on a 12-yard Weston Briggs' jaunt took the wind out of the hosts. Corner Canyon would roll to a comfortable win with Briggs and Casuga both adding another touchdown on the ground.

Corner Canyon is now 2-0 on the young season, and they will visit Plain City, Utah, to take on the Fremont Silverwolves next Friday. West Broward will head north to Georgia to take on a 2-0 Camden County [Kingsland, GA] Wildcats' squad that has averaged 50.5 points on offense in its first two games.

TEAM INFO ...

Let's start with Corner Canyon. Utah isn't Florida in terms of the sheer number of programs and prospects, but it is a strong high school football state. Annually, the Beehive State produces some extremely high-level talent at the prep level, and the best players here can play anywhere. The more casual Florida fans in attendance tonight might be surprised how this team looks when they take field. They're going to look like a college team in many respects.

Case in point, the Chargers have six ranked recruits in the Class of 2026 leading the way. Big 4-star IOL Esun Tafa (6-4, 305 lbs.) is Utah's fourth-ranked recruit, and he's committed to USC. QB Helaman Casuga is also a 4-star, and he's pledged to Texas A&M. He's got 3-star WR Kai Meza (Minnesota) in the lineup as a target, and another 3-star wideout in Isaiah Morris who hasn't announced his college destination yet. The defense has 3-star talent in DL Jase Kozlowski (6-5, 230 lbs.) and LB Mason Wood.

West Broward counters with two 3-star players on 247sports.com's Florida rankings – CB Shmar Akande (Toledo) and OT Alejandro Schmitt (6-5.5, 300 lbs., Florida Atlantic).

WEATHER AND MORE ...

Just checking in with a quick weather update. We had weather in the Miami area yesterday that was strong enough that it delayed the start of Columbus vs. Southridge. And ultimately that game was moved to Saturday morning.

The Weather Channel is reporting a strong thunderstorm moving through the north Miami area, and it could impact the area up until 4 p.m. – the scheduled start of this contest. We'll keep an eye on that and pass along any updates, but the area is under a Special Weather Statement.
