Two top Utah squads met in The Sporting News Game of the Week as Skyridge outlasted Lone Peak in double overtime.

LEHI, Utah, Oct. 2 — The 11th game in this series between the Lone Peak [Highland, UT] Knights and the Skyridge [Lehi, UT] Falcons might be the best one yet.

The two teams entered the game tied all-time at five wins apiece in the series, and after four quarters Thursday night in The Sporting News High School Football Game of the Week, they were still even at 24-all.

And it would take two overtimes to finally settle the score in this one, after the two rivals both added a touchdown to the scoreboard in the first overtime. Tied at 31, Skyridge held Lone Peak to a field goal in the second extra session before finally ending the game with a 16-yard walkoff touchdown run by Lincoln Tahi to give the hosts a 37-34 victory in an instant classic.

Skyridge actually trailed 10-0 at the half and never led until the first overtime when they briefly took a 31-24 lead before Lone Peak quickly evened it up. But the Falcons proved to be resilient on a night when both teams had opportunities to win the game.

Lone Peak falls to 5-3 with the loss heading into their regular-season finale back home against the Lehi [UT] Pioneers next Thursday. Skyridge will take a week off before visiting the American Fork [UT] Cavemen on October 15 in a game that could decide the Utah UHSAA Class 6A Region 3 championship.
