High school football is officially back.

Nevada's season opens with a clash of reigning NIAA 5A state champions. Perennial national contender Bishop Gorman, which has won 12 of the last 13 state titles in its division (currently in 5A D1), heads north to face reigning 5A D3 champion Las Vegas Centennial.

Centennial brings back a handful of its top players as seniors and also has four juniors with Division 1 offers, two of whom are transfers. Top senior returners include QB Ashton Hunt, DB Jhbari Christmas, DB Domonique Vaughn, and DL Robert Smith. In the junior class, Centennial returns 3-star WR Jayden Thomas and 6-foot-5, 300-pound OL Laseth Bryant, and adds a pair of 3-star transfers in WR/DB Maxwell Miles (Cesar Chavez, AZ) and OL Randle Pollard (Leuzinger, CA). And junior RB Kolten Silbernagle is one of the team's top breakout candidates. 

As for the No. 2 team in the country? Heavily-favored Bishop Gorman has two of the nation's premier defensive players and preseason All-Americans in 5-star S Jett White (Oregon) and high 3-star DE Prince Williams (Arizona). The Gaels, who have upwards of 25 bona fide D-1 prospects, return many more key seniors such as 3-star recruits QB Maika Eugenio (Hawaii), WR Kaina Watson, DB Isaiah Nickels (Hawaii), and DE Ocean Taufa. Bishop Gorman's biggest breakout candidates are a trio of blue chip underclassmen who were promising in 2024 – 5-star junior CB Hayden Stepp, high 3-star junior RB Terrance Grant Jr., and 4-star sophomore DL Tayaun Lawrence.
