There were plenty of phenomenal performances last week in Tennessee high school football, from record-breakers to monumental wins.

Here’s a look at those top individual performances from Week 5 in Tennessee. Also, readers can now vote on who they think should be the Tennessee Player of the Week. Vote as many times as you like until 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, and the winner will be announced next week.

 

Top performances from Week 5 in Tennessee high school football

(This list is in alphabetical order)

Andre Adams, Antioch: A junior quarterback, Adams set a new TSSAA record for total yards in the Bears’ 54-40 win against Centennial. He accounted for 714 yards of total offense along with six TDs. Adams was 19-of-27 for 507 yards and four TDs while adding 207 yards and two TDs on the ground.

Matthew Anderson, Ravenwood: A senior linebacker, Anderson registered seven tackles, three for loss, a sack and two forced fumbles in just two quarters as the Raptors moved to 5-0 with a 42-10 win against Franklin.

Alie Bangura, Middle Tennessee Christian School: Bangura rushed for 197 yards on 26 carries and scored three TDs in a 42-35 win against Concord Christian.

Caden Baugh, Greeneville: A quarterback, Baugh completed 7-of-9 passes for 240 yards and four TDs along with rushing for 66 yards and a TD in the Greene Devils’ 63-0 win against Sullivan East.

Riley Biddle, Donelson Christian Academy: Biddle rushed for 218 yards and two TDs as well as a two-point conversion in a 43-28 win against Franklin Christian Academy.

Cole Brown, McKenzie: The Rebels’ quarterback completed 15-of-23 passes for 239 yards and three TDs and added 42 yards rushing and two more scores in a 50-14 win against Camden Central.

Jaiden Bunch, Coalfield: Bunch ran for 192 yards and three TDs on just eight carries in a 63-7 win against Midway.

Kannon Burroughs, Green Hill: A senior quarterback, Burroughs completed 14-of-23 passes for 248 yards and three TDs while adding 124 yards rushing and two TDs on eight carries in the Hawks’ 46-13 win against Gallatin.

Kade Carroll, Lewis County: Carroll had a hand on both sides of the ball as Lewis Country, after trailing 27-7 at halftime, stormed back for a 34-27 win against Adamsville. He caught four passes for 71 yards and a TD; then on defense, recorded a sack, an interception, two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

Darius Caver, Memphis Oakhaven: Caver completed 13-of-17 passes for 311 yards and five TDs in his team’s 58-6 win against Booker T. Washington.

Grayson DeGraff, Franklin Grace Christian: DeGraff caught eight passes for 140 yards and three TDs in the Lions’ 35-7 win against Columbia Academy.

David Gabriel-Georges, Chattanooga Baylor: The highly recruited junior tailback ran for 135 yards on 11 carries and found the end zone three times in a 48-7 win against CPA.

Jack Gates, Evangelical Christian School: A quarterback, Gates threw for 272 yards on 12-of-17 passing and four TDs in a 55-21 win against Tipton-Rosemark Academy.

Cooper Gentle, Chattanooga McCallie: A senior linebacker, Gentle had a huge role in the Blue Tornado’s epic 25-14 win against nationally ranked Mission Viejo, Calif. He had six solo tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and three quarterback hurries.

Akeem Hunt, Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering: Hunt recorded 17 tackles, four for loss and picked off a pass in a 44-2 win against Hillcrest.

Hicks Hunter, Sycamore: Hunter rushed for 239 yards on 24 carries and three TDs and also caught a 75-yard pass for another score in the War Eagles’ 41-10 win against Warpath.

Jaidon Hurst, Springfield: In a tight 29-28 win against East Nashville, Hurst rushed for 142 yards on 24 carries and scored three TDs.

Quinn Jenkins, Jackson North Side: Jenkins completed 11-of-16 passes for 158 yards and added 58 yards rushing and three TDs in the Indians’ 56-27 win against Dyer County in a key Region 7-4A contest.

Jaxon Jett, Oliver Springs: Jett had a huge all-around night in the Bobcats’ 35-14 win against Greenback. He rushed for 168 yards on 16 carries and three TDs, caught six passes for 174 yards and two TDs and also had four tackles and an interception on defense.

Will Jones, Maryville: The Red Rebels’ quarterback completed 11-of-14 passes for 134 yards and three TDs while adding a rushing TD in a 42-17 win against Farragut.

Jonathan Jordan, Eagleville: A senior, Jordan rushed for 130 yards on nine carries and two TDs and also registered 10 tackles and a sack on defense in the Eagles’ 34-6 win against Cornersville.

Deameion Leavell, Anderson County: Leavell was 13-of-15 passing for 236 yards and five TDs as well as adding 108 yards on 10 carries and another score in the Mavericks’ 58-28 win against Carter.

Quincy Mitchell, Forrest: Mitchell ran the ball 28 times and produced 319 yards and three TDs in a 38-6 win against Fayetteville.

Payton Niehaus, Mt. Pleasant: Niehaus had three receptions, and all three went for TDs in a 50-14 win against Riverside. He also finished with 109 yards receiving.

Jackson Pugh, University School of Jackson: A tailback, Pugh rushed for 223 yards on 18 carries and scored four TDs in a 48-6 win against First Assembly Christian.

Jour’din Shelton, Germantown: A quarterback, Shelton completed 15-of-17 passes for 262 yards and a TD in his team’s 40-35 win against Lausanne.

Jaheim Smith, Covington: Smith rushed for 160 yards on 14 carries and scored four TDs in Covington’s 63-8 win against Obion County Central.

Tay Starks, Munford: Starks had another stellar rushing performance last week, picking up 275 yards on 24 carries and scoring three TDs in the Cougars’ 51-28 win against Haywood.

JV Stinson, Knoxville Grace Christian: Just a freshman, Stinson rushed for 391 yards on 21 carries and scored three TDs in the Rams’ 70-40 win against Webb.

Zak Summers, Milan: A quarterback, Summers threw for 120 yards and three TDs as the Bulldogs moved to 5-0 with a 46-6 win against Gibson County.

Jacob Vaughn, Riverdale: A sophomore tailback, Vaughn ran for 108 yards and two TDs on just six carries in a 35-7 win against Stewarts Creek.

Blake Waldorf, Friendship Christian: In a 42-26 win against Clarksville Academy, Waldorf threw for 310 yards on just nine completions along with a pair of scores.

Jamarcus Watkins, Clarksville: Watkins rushed for 92 yards and two TDs on just two carries and also had a pick-six in the Wildcats’ 56-0 win against McGavock.

Jesse Zachary, Oneida: A defensive lineman, Zachary had a huge game in the Indians’ 24-14 win against Tellico Plains. He finished with 13 total tackles, including four for loss, and three sacks along with a forced fumble.
