In a wild Week 4 of Texas high school football that saw two huge upsets in Class 6A, there was no shortage of incredible performances by familiar names and also some new ones to our weekly recap.
As the season nears the midway point, narrowing the list down to 25 players gets tougher and tougher. We will continue to do so each week of the season leading up to the UIL state championships in Arlington in December.
(The list is in alphabetical order)
Top performances from Week 4 of Texas high school football
Chase Ames, Dripping Springs: The junior quarterback was feeling it last Thursday in a 52-0 win over Buda Johnson. Ames was 24-of-30 for 356 yards and four touchdowns to help the Tigers improve to 4-0. He also ran the ball three times for 13 yards and another score.
Kaegan Ash, Mount Enterprise: Even by Ash’s eye-popping statistical history, last week’s performance was insane. Ash rushed for 385 yards and six touchdowns on 21 attempts, caught two passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns, threw a 20-yard pass and scored on a pair of two-point conversions. Pretty impressive, huh? Get this: Ash also recorded 11 tackles, including two for loss, three forced fumbles and a sack. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe that outing. Let’s hope he slept in over the weekend.

On offense, he had two carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, threw a 35-yard touchdown and caught two passes for 23 yards.
