Mariah Myers has been tabbed as the 2024-25 Gatorade Iowa Softball Player of the year.
Myers, a senior at St. Edmond Catholic School in Fort Dodge, Iowa, is committed to play softball for the University of Iowa in the fall.
A power-hitting shortstop, Myers belped the Gaels placed fourth at state softball last summer, going 26-7 overall. She hit .600 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI while being walked 29 times.
Myers has played 11 games to date this season, recording five homers with four doubles, 11 RBI and 16 walks, as she has her team 9-2 overall and ranked in the Top 10 in Clas 1A.
“Mariah is one of the best players I’ve watched play the game of softball,” North Union head coach Kim Price said. “Mariah is a force at the plate and defensively on the field. She has impeccable discipline at the plate, and she can adjust to the pitch to get a solid hit regardless of the location.”
The 5-foot-9 Myers also shined in volleyball and track and field for St. Edmond. She earned a state title this past spring and qualified multiple times in both the shot put and discus for both state track and field and the Drake Relays.
Along with her success in athletics, Myers holds a 3.8 grade point average and has volunteered for Pride in Community Appearance and as a local youth softball coach.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states across 12 different high school sports. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee, which leverages experts including coaches, scouts, media and others as sources to help evaluate and determine the state winners in each sport.
Every winner receives a grant to donate to a social impact partner.
