When one domino falls, more typically follow, and that is the case with Iowa high school conference reshuffling at the moment.

The latest is Woodward-Granger High School, as they are leaving the West Central Activities Conference for the Heart of Iowa Conference. The change will begin with the 2026-27 school year.

All sports will be moved to the new conference other than football. In Iowa, football uses districts on a two-year schedule to determine "conferences" and opponents.

"The Woodward-Granger Board of Directors unanimously approved the application for membership," the school announced in a press release. "Please let this memorandum serve as a formal request for membership in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference beginning July 1, 2026.

"We believe the Heart of Iowa is an excellent activities conference fit for our district."

Woodward-Granger previously was part of the Raccoon River Conference until 2009 when they joined the West Central Activities Conference. The Raccoon River Conference was rebranded as the Heart of Iowa Conference, as the league dates back to 1966.

Johnston, one of the larger schools in Iowa, and North Polk, which continues to grow by a day, are both former members of the conference.

The 10-team league will include Grand View Christian, Greene County, Nevada, PCM, Perry, Roland-Story, Saydel, South Hamilton, West Marshall and now Woodward-Granger.
