Carlton should entertain the possibility of trading two-time Coleman medal winner Charlie Curnow, with Sydney the 'perfect' fit, according to Garry Lyon.

The Blues are currently mired in the lower reaches of the AFL ladder looking for ways to regenerate their squad as they go into 2026 with Michael Voss in charge once again

Curnow is the no.1 target for the Swans as they seek to add the goals missing from the team since the departure of Lance Franklin, according to CODE Sports.

Despite Curnow being contracted until the end of 2029, Lyon believes the star would slot in perfectly at the Swans, who have had great success recruiting the likes of Tony Lockett, Barry Hall and Franklin in the past.

"He fits the profile. He fits the history of the Sydney Swans and what they’ve been able to do in terms of attracting big-name key forwards with a profile and a presence and someone that fits into the market," Lyon told AFL 360.

"He’d be perfect. He’d be absolutely perfect for the Sydney Swans."

Lyon had some advice for the Blues in regards to any negotiations for Curnow's services, suggesting they would consider letting go the star forward if the offer was too good to refuse.

"They should say ‘no, under no circumstances would we consider a trade’ – and then sit back and see what comes their way. That’s the way this thing works," Lyon said.

"History is littered with players and clubs who have declared that ‘under no circumstances will we take the bait’ – and then two days later they go: ‘Changed our mind, a deal’s been done.’ So that’s open.

"I think everything’s on the table – and if something crazy comes Carlton’s way then I wouldn’t be surprised."
