The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a rough outing against the Atlanta Falcons, losing 22-6 in their home opener in Week 2. On top of the loss, the Vikings made the shocking announcement that J.J. McCarthy would not take the field in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, who will be shorthanded in their own right without Joe Burrow. That raises the question to some on who the backup is for the Vikings.
That would be one Carson Wentz. Yes, the former No. 1 draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles is the backup in Minnesota after Sam Howell was traded to the Eagles, who the Vikings traded for during the preseason. Wentz spent last season as Patrick Mahomes' backup with the Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to that, he was in Los Angeles with the Rams backing up Matthew Stafford.
Wentz has been a franchise quarterback for three different teams. He was traded from the Eagles to the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2021 season. After one season, he was moved to the Washington Commanders. Wentz has 153 career touchdown passes to 67 interceptions
