One of the biggest talking points in the Asia Cup 2025 came when Pakistan threatened to boycott their group-stage clash against the UAE.

But the plan did not go as they wanted and the episode soon became a subject of trolling across social media. Among the many reactions, Irfan Pathan’s cryptic post grabbed the spotlight.

What led to Pakistan’s boycott drama in Asia Cup 2025?

The trouble started after the high-voltage India vs Pakistan match on September 14. India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, defeated Pakistan and later refused to take part in the customary handshake.

This gesture created a storm as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lodged a complaint with the ICC.

PCB went a step further and demanded that match referee Andy Pycroft be removed from the tournament. To further put pressure, they even threatened not to play their next game against the UAE.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) did not bow to PCB’s demand. Pycroft continued his duties as match referee, and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) also refused to make changes.

With no support for their protest, Pakistan found themselves cornered. Eventually, after a lot of back-and-forth, PCB agreed to play the fixture against UAE but asked for a delayed start.

The game, originally scheduled for 8 PM IST on September 17, finally began an hour later at 9 PM. UAE won the toss and chose to bowl first.

How did Irfan Pathan react to Pakistan’s failed plan?

As the boycott drama fizzled out, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to social media with a sharp yet cheeky remark. He wrote: “Apke paas option hi Nahi hai choose karne ka…”

The post, though cryptic, was clearly directed at PCB’s failed move.
