Continuing his stellar run of form in Test cricket, Yashasvi Jaiswal piled up 173 off 253 balls* on Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies in Delhi.
After becoming the first batter since Sir Don Bradman to score 150+ runs in an innings for the fifth time, a big day awaits Jaiswal on October 11, with plenty of time to continue his big knock.
While he approaches his third double century in his short career, former India captain Anil Kumble has also backed the 23-year-old batter to potentially breach the 300-run mark.

Anil Kumble predicts a triple hundred for Yashasvi Jaiswal
So far, only two Indians, Virender Sehwag and Karun Nair, have been able to breach the elusive mark of 300 runs in Tests for India.
While a few players came close, Kumble believes it is a perfect opportunity for the southpaw to join the exclusive list of batters to reach the landmark, as India would try to bat as long as possible to bat the West Indies out of the game.
“Throughout his short career, he has shown that he doesn’t waste opportunities like these. Once he’s in, he makes it count, and that’s wonderful to see. He’s still out there, and he can go on to score big runs tomorrow,” said the former India skipper.
“As Sai Sudharsan mentioned, they certainly want to bat as long as possible. Shubman Gill said at the toss that they want to pile on the runs, and that’s exactly what the Indian batters have done on Day 1. Jaiswal now has a great opportunity, not just for a double hundred, but maybe even a triple hundred tomorrow,” Kumble added.

Notably, since his debut in 2023, he has scored 7 centuries for his 2418 runs. No other batter has scored more runs in the format, with Joe Root at number 2 with 2307 runs.
His two double centuries came against England in their tour of India in 2024.
