Man United set fresh deadline for Ruben Amorim to save his job image

Ruben Amorim is reportedly in crisis mode with his Manchester United future hanging in the balance

The Portuguese coach has endured a tough start to the 2025/26 season with just one win from his opening four Premier League games of the campaign.

The former Sporting CP boss infamously delivered a rousing speech on the Old Trafford pitch on the final day of last season as he pledged 'the good days are coming'.

However, despite a big-spending summer - including the triple arrival of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko - United continue to stagnate.

Amorim offered a downbeat assessment of his current position, following last weekend's 3-0 derby defeat at Manchester City, as he admitted the decision to retain him is not in his hands.

That has triggered a flood of speculation over who could replace him at Old Trafford after just ten months in charge in Manchester.

Since his arrival 10 months ago, Amorim has won just 17 games from 47 across all competitions, at an overall ratio of 36%.

If he is sacked in the weeks ahead, he could become the quickest permanent United boss to be dismissed in Premier League history, with David Moyes [51 games] currently holding that record.

As per reports from the Daily Express, the United hierarchy are prepared to make a call on Amorim's status ahead of the October international break, with the next three games the deciding factor over his retention or exit.

The rough guide aims for between five and nine points gained from home clashes with Chelsea [September 20] and Sunderland [October 4] either side of a trip to Brentford [September 27].

All three opponents are currently above United in the Premier League rankings, with Chelsea unbeaten since the season start on eight points, Sunderland on seven and Brentford level with United on four - but in front on goal difference.

The international window would give United the space to make a decision and a parting of ways would plunge the club into yet more uncertainty over who can break the struggling cycle at Old Trafford.
