The September international break has come to an end and we now have the Premier League returning with some fascinating clashes, particularly the Manchester Derby at the Etihad, but don't forget the west London derby on Saturday evening.
Brentford lost manager Thomas Frank, as well as Christian Norgaard, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, with former set-piece coach Keith Andrews given his first managerial job. They have suffered defeats to a Nottingham Forest side that have since sacked manager Nuno Espirito Santo, as well as newly-promoted Sunderland so far this season.
Having won the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have started this season reasonably well with an opening day goalless draw against a strong Crystal Palace side at Stamford Bridge being followed by a hammering of West Ham United and then a comfortable defeat of fellow west Londoners Fulham before the break.
The Sporting News has all the latest odds, tips and predictions for this clash at the Gtech Community Stadium in London this weekend.
Brentford vs. Chelsea prediction
Brentford were able to frustrate Aston Villa last month and they edged themselves to a 1-0 victory in that game. This is, though, a further step up and Chelsea will be expected to come out on top with relative ease in this one.
The Sporting News Score Prediction:
Brentford 0-2 Chelsea
- Chelsea are among the leading contenders to win the Premier League this season.
- The Blues are also priced up as the firm favourites to win this one with the bookmakers.
- There could be some debutants for both sides after late summer moves, such as Reiss Nelson for the Bees and new Chelsea attacking duo Facundo Buonanotte and Alejandro Garnacho.
Brentford vs. Chelsea lineups
Here's how we think these two sides will lineup this weekend. Brentford are expected to be cautious in their approach and a similar style to the team that beat Villa is expected, whilst Chelsea are still unlikely to be able to start with key man Cole Palmer, who is facing a late fitness test. Joao Pedro has a clear path to the number nine job after Liam Delap was ruled out until December.

Brentford vs. Chelsea team news
- Thomas Frank was known for playing with a bit of tactical variety, switching between systems, but Keith Andrews has persisted with a 4-2-3-1, with Jordan Henderson alongside Yehor Yarmolyuk in midfield.
- Reiss Nelson is expected to remain on the bench for this one, with the Bees having an abundance of attacking talent for the time being in good form, such as Kevin Schade on the left-hand side.
- It wouldn’t be a major shock to see Enzo Fernandez play in the ten, but if Maresca wants to get Alejandro Garnacho in from the start then Pedro Neto could be the player deployed there.
- Chelsea have a fair few injury issues, with Cole Palmer, as mentioned, a major doubt, and Liam Delap out injured for the majority of the first-half of this campaign.
